RadCARE Bill Introduced In U.S. Senate On June 5, 2003, Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY) introduced the Consumer Assurance of Radiologic Excellence (RadCARE) bill in the U.S. Senate. This bill, S.1197, would require personnel performing medical imaging, planning and delivering radiation therapy procedures to meet federal education and credentialing standards in order for these services to be paid for through Medicare and Medicaid. S. 1197 is a companion bill to HR 1214 introduced by Rep. Heather Wilson (R-NM) on March 13, 2003, and S. 1197 will be referred to the Senate Health, education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. HR 1214 currently has 25 cosponsors and has been referred to the House Energy & Commerce Committee, Health Subcommittee. Cosponsors on S. 1197 are HELP Committee ranking minority member Sen. Edward (D-NJ), Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND) and Senate minority leader Tom Daschle (D-SD). |
