Title:                Radiation and Digital Imaging (1.5 CE)

Abstract:          This course will look at the many sources of radiation in our environment.  Radiographic technique and its relation to patient dose will be discussed.  Also covered will be radiation doses for various exams, including fluoroscopy, and how to minimize patient and personnel exposure.  Also covered will be common problems in digital imaging and how they affect image quality.  Corrective actions once a problem or artifact is identified will be presented.

Title:                Pathologies on Portable Chest (1 CE)

Abstract:          This presentation will leave technologists empowered to improve their patient care and better equipped to recognize common pathologies. We will discuss in detail various diseases that require immediate action. Content provided will be the most up to date research along with input from local radiologists.

Title:                The Basics of X-ray Equipment and Production (1 CE)

Abstract:          The basics of atomic theory, electricity and magnetism are an integral component of x-ray production, though something that is easily forgotten in the day-to-day work of a radiologic technologist. This presentation will refresh the basic physics involved with thermionic emission, target interactions and the energy of the x-ray photons. We will also review basic x-ray tube components and function.

Title:                Dose Creep: better hot than not! (1 CE)

Abstract:          One of the biggest challenges that technologist face in modern day radiography is dose/repeat creep. This team of students inadvertently replicated these phenomena in a cadaver-imaging course; they did not realize it until they were reflecting on their data. They would like to share their findings and discuss the effects on patient dose.

Title:                I’ve got the Beat (1.5 CE)

Abstract:          Presentation will cover cardiac arrhythmias, including statistics, risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment.  Beginning with an overview of cardiac anatomy and physiology, and ending with a personal experience, the talk will cover imaging modalities used to diagnose and treat A-fib, as well as potential risk of contrast reaction and radiation dose.


Meals: Breakfast for both mornings and Saturday lunch will be provided.
